Abstract

AIM To investigate the effects of edaravone on interleukin-6(IL-6) and interleukin-10(IL- 10) and the expression of their mRNA in patients undergoing one-lung ventilation(OLV).METHODS Twenty-four ASAⅠorⅡpatients with lung cancer, aged 48 - 67 years, undergoing elective lung resection were randomly divided into control group and edaravone group(n = 12 each).Anesthesia was induced with midazolam 0.03 mg·kg~(-1),fentanyl 3μg·kg~(-1) and 8%sevoflurane,and maintained with same combined inhaled and intravenous anesthesia. After the induction of anesthesia, the patients in the edaravone group were received edaravone 0.5mg·kg~(-1)(diluted in sodium chloride injection 100 mL),and the patients in the control group were received with the same amount of sodium chloride injection.Blood sample were taken before skin incision(T_1),60 min after lung inflation(T_2) and 1 h after surgery(T_3) for the determination of plasma IL-6 and IL-10 concentration and the expression of their mRNA.RESULTS The levels of IL-6 and IL-10 and the expression of their mRNA were higher at T_2,T_3 than those at T_1 in both groups.IL-6 level and its mRNA,IL-6/IL-10 and IL-6 mRNA/ IL-10 mRNA were all significantly lower at T_2 and T_3 in the edaravone group than those in the control group(P0.05).CONCLUSION Edaravone is effective in reducing plasma IL-6 and maintaining a relative stability of IL- 6/IL-10 in patients undergoing OLV.
