Abstract

The factors influencing soil compaction which include compactive energy, water content, mechanical composition and compacting conditions etc. in site are discussed in this paper. These factors have a great influence on both compaction quality and characteristics of compacted soil. The compaction tests results and the test data from fill compaction of highway are analyzed. The analyses of results and calculating data show that the heavier compaction of high-density soil will lead to radically increase of compactive energy. Codes about compaction degree of different countries are compared and suggestions are brought up that a suitable water content and a proper degree of compaction should be defined based on the application requests of compacted soil to achieve the purpose of reasonableness and economy.
