Abstract
Objective: Human beta defensins play a important role for their antimicrobial activity in mucosa immune system. This study aims to detect human beta defensin 2 in whole unstimulated saliva(WUS) of oral lichen planus(OLP), oral leukoplakia(OLK)and oral candidiasis. Method:The WUS samples were collected in a group of 40 patients (18 men, 22 women) with 20 cases of OLP,10 cases of OLK,10 cases of oral candidiasis, age range 20~55 years. Control group consisted of 20 healhy controls, mean age 25 years. Saliva beta defensin 2 was detected by Western Blotting. Result:HBD-2 was detected in 12/20 controls and all patients which was higher than that in controls. Conclusion:These results show that the change of HBD-2 in oral diseases reflects the infection degree, but also indicate that there maybe relationship between human beta defensins and pre-malignant diseases.
