Abstract

The occurrence, outbreaks, insecticide resistance and resistant mechanism of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hubner), (Lepidoptera: Nocutidae) during past twenty years are briefly reviewed. The results obtained showed that the development of insecticide resistance has been testified as an important reason for its outbreaks in rcent years. The delayed culticular penetration, enhanced detoxification enzymes activity and insensitive acetylcholinesterase have been involved for conferring insecticide resistance in the beet armyworm.
