Abstract
Somatic embryogenesis were obtained from mature embryo axes of eleven Arachis hypogaea varieties cultured on MS medium supplemented with 2,4D.The freqency of somatic embryos induction and the average number of somatic embryos were difference among these varieties. The effects of different explants and light conditions on peanut somatic embryogenesis were also investigated. The results indicated that there were significant differences among explant source for somatic embryo formation. The mature embryo axis was the best explant source for somatic embryogenesis.Different varieties required different light condition. The dark was suitable for Shanyou 71 somatic embryo formation, however the light was necessary for Quanhua 10.
