Abstract

A literature review and main progress on temperature distribution of non-uniformly heated framed steel column is presented. The main focuses of the literature review are the temperature distribution of framed steel column in fire, and its influences on the fire-resistant capability of steel columns. The reasons of non-uniformly temperature distributions are as follows: framed steel colums are protected by partition walls;or steel colums are web-infilled or partly fire protected;exterior steel frames heated by window fire;broken of fire protection layers. The influences on fire-resistant are as following: additional thermal stress in the section decreases critical temperature;steel columns fail by lateral torsional buckling;thermal bowing due to temperature gradient. The key problems on fire-resistance design of steel columns with non-uniform temperature distribution needing further research are pointed out.
