Abstract
The contact pressure between axle and hub in the rolling stock is not only the important parameter to study fretting damage but also the important factor of ensuring torque transmission and resisting relative slip.In this paper, aiming at the hollow axle and wheel, adopting the finite element software ABAQUS,the finite element model of axle and wheel is established.Considering the interference fit between axle and wheel and mesh refinement in the high stress gradient zone, the influence of axle design parameters on the contact pressure between axle and hub is investigated. The design parameters include the interference fit, axle fillet radii, hub extension, diameter ratio between wheel fit and axle body and hollowness,as well as the friction coefficient, temperature and rotation speed of the wheelset in the service condition. The result shows that the interference fit has an important effect on the contact pressure and should be chosen carefully, the axle fillet radii and hub extension significantly influence the contact edge pressure, and the other axle design parameters have negligible effect on the contact pressure.
