Clinical Pathological and Immunohistochemical Characteristics of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor

Abstract

Objective:To explore the role of the clinical behavior,pathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST)in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.Methods:60 cases with GIST were analyzed in clinical,pathological and immunohistochemical perspectives through retrospective study.Results:Among the benign and malignant tumors,and intercourse-like tumor between benign and malignant tumors,there were significant differences for the diameter of tumor(P0.01),but not for the CD117 and CD34(P0.05)although these two CD molecules showed very high positive rates(83.3% and 75%,respectively)in GIST.Conclusion:It seems that CD117 and CD34 could be a specific GIST marker although they are not suitable to diagnose the GIST development.However,the diameter of tumor is associated with the tumor development.
