Abstract
Objective To discuss the strategy and measures of early medical aid in hospital for earthquake-hit victims. Methods The traumatic condition, types and features of 1874 victims following Wenchuan earthquake were analysed. Results The time for hospitalization was mainly within one week after earthquake(69.3%).The top three injuries were superficial tissue wounds, fractures and brain trauma.Crush syndrome had the highest death rate among these injuries. Most severe cases were inflicted by brain injury.Among the earthquake-hit victims who had primary disease, pulmonary diseases constituted the highest death rate. Conclusion Timely medical rescue in the first three weeks after earthquake, active prevention and therapy for complications and primary diseases are essential to reduce the disability and death rates.
