Abstract

Controlled rolling and controlled cooling experiments under various technology parameters have been carried out on low carbon manganese steels.OM and TEM observations indicated that the good combination of strength and toughness could be gained for the steel with duplex microstructures of ferrite and bainite evenly distributed in the microstructure.The most contribution of bainite strengthening to the yield strength was about 30%.Fine bainite ferrite lath and the existence of sub-grain decreased the brittle transition temperature of the tested steel.Fine grain strengthening and bainite strengthening is the primary strengthening mechanism for the low carbon manganese steel with duplex microstructure as well as solution strengthening.
