Abstract
Objective To study the significance of MRI T2 Values of brain deep gray nucleus in diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.Materials and Methods Twenty cases of the PD with clear diagnosis and the 10 normal controls were collected in our study. All the cases performed MRI scan with the same repetition time and two different echo times to obtain the T2 weighted imaging.Signal intensity of each ROI was measured and T2 value was calculated using Block equations. Results (1) T2 values of substantia nigra were significantly lower in PD patients compared with that of in the 10 controls, while, the T2 values of other deep gray nucleus had no statistically difference between the two groups.(2) In the patients with PD,T2 values of had statistical differences between each staging in the substantia nigra, between 2.5 and 4 staging in the putamen, between 0,2 and 4 staging in the thalamus.(3) There were significantly negative correlation between T2 value in substantia nigra and disease staging. Conclusion (1) T2 values can reflect signal changes and deposition of pathological iron in the substantia nigra.(2) T2 values were gradually decreased in substantia nigra in different staging.and gradually decreased in the putamen in staging of 2.5,3and 4,which indicated that brain iron deposition was a dynamic process.Iron deposition showed also increase in the Thalamus.(3) T2 values of the substantia nigra were negatively correlated with severity of PD.
