Abstract
Purpose To study the histological and immunohistochemical characteristics of angioleiomyomatous harmatoma in the lymph nodes. Methods Ten cases of angioleiomyomatous harmatoma in the lymph nodes were investigated by using hematoxylin-eosin stain and immunohistochemistry(SP methods). The related literatures were reviewed and discussed. Results The harmatoma consisted of partly residual architecture of lymph node with stromal collagenization, proliferative blood vessels with thickened wall and surrounded by irragular hyperplasia of smooth muscle bandles. The smooth muscles were well-differentiated without mitosis and necrosis. Immunohistochemical staining showed that smooth muscle cells were positive for SMA and desmin, but negative for HMB45, ER and PR in all the cases. Conclusions Angioleiomyomatous harmatoma is very rarely in lymph nodes, which shows enlarged lymph nodes in the inguinal region without other specific clinical characteristics. The diagnosis can be made according to the histological characteristics and immunohistochemical findings.
