Abstract
Influence of Bacillus thuringiensis on the feeding, development and fecundity of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, was studied in the laboratory. The Bt tested was a liquid formulation of 2500IU/mg produced commercially by Hubei Bt Centre. The results indicated that Bt fed by 3rd instar larvae for 2 h caused feeding inhibition and retardation in larval development of the 3rd instar larvae, but did not affect the feeding and development of the 4th instar larvae. Bt fed by 4th instar larvae led to the reduction in both the percentage of pupation and adult emergence, which significantly increased with the increase of Bt concentration. When the adults were fed with Bt at concentration recommended for field application, their egg production was significantly reduced, but the longevity of the moths was not affected.
