An overview of OPC technology evolution

Abstract

The three main phases of OPC(OLE for Process Control) technology development are described that include Classic OPC and OPC XML-DA and OPC UA(OPC Unified Architecture) since the OPC foundation was founded.A leap from single platform to platform independent is realized that OPC technology base on from COM and DCOM to Web Services、XML and HTTP.For keeping the compatibility of OPC technology,the migration strategies are provided from Classic OPC to OPC UA by OPC foundation.Finally,the future of OPC technology is represented.
