Abstract
Objective:To assess the role of automatic exchange transfusion in glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase(G6PD)deficiency with acute hemolysis.Methods:Automatic exchange transfusion was used to treat 10 G6PD deficient newborns with acute hemolysis.Results:Bilirubin level was lowered from 533.14±115.65 μmol/L to 295.50±88.51 μmol/L,and its removal rate was 44.57%.Hemoglobin content and red blood cells were raised by 34.12% and 43.3% respectively.Severe adverse effects did not occur in all cases.Conclusion:Automatic exchange transfusion may be a simple,feasible,safe and effective method for treating G6PD deficient newborns with acute hemolysis.
