Abstract

Objective To study the effects of Cyproheptadine(CYP) on serum sex hormone concentrations in rats. Methods The hormone concentrations were measured with radioimmunoassay(RIA).Results It was found that CYP(2.3 mg·kg -1 ·d -1 ,ig,14d) increased serum LH concentration and decreased serum P concentration in female rats significantly(P0.05,P0.01,respectively),but had no effects on serum LH,FSH,T concentrations in male rats and serum E 2 concentration in female rats. CYP(4.6 mg·kg -1 ·d -1 ,ig,14d)could increase serum LH,T concentrations while having no effect on FSH concentration in male rats, but increased serum LH concentration(P0.05) while decreased serum FSH,E 2 and P concentrations significantly(P0.01) in female rats. Conclusion Cyproheptadine has stimulative effects on serum LH(♀♂),T(♂) concentration but inhibitory effects on serum FSH,P,E 2 concentration in female rats.
