Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy of paroxetine with buspirone in the treatment of depression. Methods Patients with depression diagnosed according to ICD10 or CCMD-3(n=80) were divided randomly into two groups: Group Ⅰ,paroxetine with buspirone were given;group Ⅱ,given paroxetine only. The course was six weeks for both groups. The efficacy was measured with Hamiltion Depression Scale(HAMD) and Hamiltion Anxiety Scale(HAMA) at the end of week 1,2,4,and 6.The side effects were assessed by the Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS). Results The score of HAMD and HAMA of group Ⅰ was significantly lower than that of group Ⅱ(t= 1.79-11.57,P0.05).The differences of the side effects between the two groups were not significant. Conclusion Combination of paroxetine with buspirone is better than paroxetine only for depression.
