Abstract
Insect haemolymph melanization can be induced by activating prophenoloxidase (ProPO) cascade. Phenoloxidase (PO) plays an important role in insect humoral immunity. Using an anticoagulant it was possible to isolate plasma and intact haemocytes from Helicoverpa armigera larvae. PO and ProPO activities in plasma and haemocyte lysate were assayed when using bovine trypsin as an activator and L DOPA as a substrate. The results showed PO and ProPO were distributed in both plasma and haemocyte lysate. In this method less sample and less time are needed, and it is easy to control.
