Abstract

Based on the data obtained from ten cruises from April of 2002 to June of 2003,the species composition, dominant species, community structure, abundance and biomass of zooplankton in the Zhujiang River estuary were studied.Totally 71 species of holoplankton and 7 groups of planktonic larva were identified.Acartica spinicauda was the only dominant species appearing both in wet and in dry seasons.Zooplankton in the investigated areas of the Zhujiang River estuary could be divided into four ecological groups:esturine group, nearshore group,widely-distributed pelagic group, and eurythermal and euryhaline group. The zooplankton abundance was higher in wet season than in dry season, while the zooplankton biomass is just the opposite.Salinity was one of the main factors influencing the species composition, abundance and biomass of zooplankton.
