Abstract

Study on insect innate immunity will benefit us to understand the immune mechanism of human and offer us new ideas on the therapy of infectious diseases and self-immune diseases. Innate immunity of insect includes physical barrier, humoral immunity, and cellular immunity. After be invaded by microbial pathogen, insect may recognize the pathogen by pattern recognition. Then humoral immunity and cellular immunity of insect are activated through Toll pathway or Imd pathway. The humoral immunity and the cellular immunity are not isolated, but contacted, accelerated, and collaborated with each other. Induction of antimicrobial peptides, phagocytosis, and melanotic encapsulation are the main immune responses of insect against pathogen invasion.
