Shen Congwen in Literary History Compilations of Different Periods

Abstract

In the 1930s,there appeared two contradictory but complementary literary trends in the China's literary circle: proletarian literature and literalistic literature.As one of the liberalistic representatives,Shen Congwen insisted involving society and politics from literalistic intellectuals' standpoint,which was strongly criticized.As a result,there are no objective and fair appraisals in the initial literary history compilation.
