Abstract
Owing to the deficiencies of traditional roundabouts,modern roundabouts at abroad are developed and used to replace the traditional roundabouts,which greatly improves the security of roundabouts. By respectively using the theoretical safety impact analysis based on the number of conflict points and the before-and-after comparison method based on traffic accident data,the impact of modern roundabouts on the vehicles and vulnerable road users is analyzed. It shows that,though modern roundabouts have improved the safety of vehicle running,yet are less than the cross with traffic signals in improving the safety of pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Finally,the modern roundabouts' application conditions,key design points and safety design methods for bicycle facilities are proposed.
