Abstract

A new kind of magnetorheological(MR)damper,which can provide controllable damping forces with very little energy consumption,is designed and manufactured. Based on the MR damper damping characteristics experimentfor the MR damper,the nonlinear hysteresis property model to describe the performance of the MR damper is established.Afterwards,the MR damper is proposed to be used in semi-active control vehicle suspension system. A strategy based on optimal control theory is proposed and recommended. Road excitation of B level is utilized in numerical simulation. Numerical results presented here demonstrate that the strategy based on optimal control theory is very effective. Therefore,MRdamper is an idealsemi-active control device with great potential.
