Abstract
Nickel-based alloy coatings containing wear-resistant additives were prepared on the surface of nodular cast iron by flame spraying. The friction and wear behavior of the nodular cast iron substrate and the Ni-based coatings was examined with a pin-on-disk friction and wear tester. The morphology of worn surfaces was observed with a digital microscope, and the wear mechanism of the Ni-based coatings was discussed. Results indicated that, under heavy load condition, the nodular cast iron substrate was liable to severe wear, and the Ni-based coatings doped with wear-resistant additives showed good wear resistance. In the meantime, the wear mass loss of the Ni-based coatings under a load of 20~100 N significantly varied with varying type and dosage of the additives. Moreover, under dry sliding condition, the nodular cast iron substrate was mainly dominated by fatigue and adhesion wear, and the Ni-based coatings were dominated by fatigue wear, accompanied by a certain degree of plastic deformation.
