Abstract

Recluses regarded Zhuang Zi's freedom spirit as their reasonable principles to withdraw from society and live in solitude. They used his relativism to observe the ups and downs in real life and filled their hermit life with cultural activities, which turned life valued and civilized. The combination of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism and the promotion of Zhuang zi by rulers got Dhyana to accept some of the theories of zhuang zi in order to spread its own thought.
