Abstract
This paper presents an experimental study of bird impact on a full-scale aircraft windshield.Whole dynamic response process of bird impact on windshield was studied by using a high speed video camera system and a data measuring and collecting system.Comprehensive discussion was carried out about bird and windshield deformation,as well as the windshield damage mode.Based on experimental results, the critical velocity of windshield resisting impact, the curves of displacement-time and strain-time on windshield key points were obtained.Additionally,a valid bird shape model for dynamic simulation of bird impact on an aircraft windshield was proposed based on the analysis of images taken by high speed video camera. Some valuable conclusions were obtained from above results, which may afford experimental evidence for establishing a reasonable finite element model describing bird impact on aircraft windshield.
