Abstract

Kong Yinda's Mao Shi Zheng Yi(Annotations to Mao's Edition of The Book of Odes),though written at the royal decree,was the cumulative work of the studies on The Book of Odes in line with the ruling and imperial examination in the Tang Dynasty.Kong offered new interpretations on such problems as Confucius's bowdlerization and stylistic differences in odes.In addition,he differed from previous studies in his idea of genre and techniques,his interpretation of artistic techniques,his reordering of the genres and techniques,and his understanding the poetic structure and rhymes,showing rich and clear elements of poetics.As a result,this book of his can be called a milestone in the study of The Book of Odes.
