Diagnostic Value of Matrix Metalloproteinase 9 for Malignant Pleural Effusion:A Meta Analysis

Abstract

Objective To study the diagnostic value of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) for malignant pleural effusion(MPE) by Meta-analysis.Methods We searched the literatures published before October 2012 about the MMP-9 in the diagnosis of MPE and extracted data according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.Meta-DiSc software was applied to test the heterogeneity between studies,Meta-analysis was used to analyze Diagnosis efficiency indexes and the summary receive operating characteristic(SROC) curve was plotted.Results Comprehensive sensitivity,specificity and diagnostic odds ratio were 0.754(95% CI:0.709-0.795),0.714(95% CI:0.663-0.761)and 9.161(95% CI:6.520-12.872),respectively.AUC was 0.8179,and Q index was 0.7517.Conclusion MMP-9 plays a role in screening MPE,but it is not enough to be used as a single method to diagnose MPE.
