Abstract

As a microcosmic representation of Shanghai’s urban landscape, the landscape at the Shanghai World Expo showcases a visionary framework for the city’s landscape design and research. The typical and demonstrational qualities, along with the advanced conceptual one, as realized in the Expo landscape, offer useful insights into current trends in urban landscape development. Drawing on the collaborative experience of creating the World Expo, this article discusses and ponders over the relevance, themes and methodologies of contemporary urban landscape design.
