Abstract

To evaluate the endovascular embolization therapy (EET) for cerebral arteriovenous malformation.(CAM).Seventy-two patients with CAM underwent EET were reviewed retrospectively. The successful rate of embolization technique was 100%. Seventy-two patients were subjected to embolization therapy for 159 times, ranging 1 to 5 times per case (with an average of 1.9 times). Among the 72 cases, the embolization was performed with silk thread alone in 51cases,and embolization with silk thread combined with n-butyl 2 -cyanoacrylate(NBCA) in 21 cases. Malformed vascular mass completely disappeared in 15 cases, over 75% of the malformed vascular mass disappeared in 26 cases , 50%~75% reduction in 20 cases, and reduction less than 50% in 11 cases. Twenty-six cases received X ray-knife radiation therapy after embolization, and operative resection was scheduled in 21 cases . There were no severe complications during or after operation.[Conclusion]Super-selective catheterization followed by embolization therapy is an effective and safe therapeutic measure for CAM.
