A Brief Discussion on Xiaoshuo in Han Shu·Yi Wen Zhi

Initially Xiaoshuo is not a stable concept but a value judgment.It is a theory of low theoretical value.In the book Han Shu·Yi Wen Zhi,this value judgment still continued following the value in the pre-Qin period.Xiaoshuo was considered vulgar and low-value work by Fangshi relying on the ancients to seek rank and wealth.At the same time,the Fangshi's works were also listed as one of the ten schools,enhancing xiaoshuo's stylistic judgments and strengthening the stylistic concept Xiaoshuo.Xiaoshuo in the book Han Shu·Yi Wen Zhi is a combination of value judgment and style judgment.
