Abstract

Objective To investigate the effectiveness and side effects of concurrent chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer. Methods 78 pathologically verified cases of Ⅱb-Ⅳa cervical cancer were randomly divided into a treatment group(group A,n=42) and a radiotherapy control group(group B,n=42).Both groups underwent radiotherapy, using 6 MV-X ray for external radiation with a total dose of 45-50 Gy and 192Ir afterloading unit for brachytherapy at the dose of 7 Gy per week at point A with a total dose of 35-42 Gy.The group A patients were synchronously given cisplatin(DDP) 20 mg,5-FU 500 mg and calcium folinate(CF) 100 mg,qd from d1 to d5 in the 1st,4th and 7th weeks. The short-term effect,5-year survival rate and complications were noted. Results The effective rate 3 months after radiotherapy was 95.0% in group A and 72.2% in group B,showing a significant difference(P0.05).The 5-year survival rate was higher in group A(61.9%) than in group B(36.1%)(P0.05).The complications, though higher in group A than in group B,were tolerable and not aggravated later. Conclusion Concurrent chemoradiotherapy can remarkably increase the survival rate in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer.
