Abstract
Mucosal surfaces of recta are rich in blood supply, providing the means for rapid drug transport to the systemic circulation and avoiding,in most cases, degradation by first-pass hepatic metabolism.Rectal administration provides rapid absorption of many drugs and may be an easy alternative way to the intravenous route, having the advantage of being relatively painless. This statement describes four forms of rectal administration including suppository, enema, gel, foam,in order to improve the ability of physicians to manage specific problems.
