Clinical analysis of central venous catheterization with double-lumen in hemodialysis

Abstract

Objective To study the clinical applications of temporary central venous catheterization(CVC) in hemodialysis.Methods A retrospective study was performed in 464 cases undergoing hemodialysis with central venous catheters during January 2001 to December 2008,which included 332 internal jugular venous catheterizations,82 subclavian venous catheterizations and 50 femoral venous catheterizations.The complications and their management were analyzed.ResuIts The common acute complications of catheterizations included local hematoma in 10 cases,local bleeding in 15 cases and inadvertent arterial puncture in 8 cases.The common long term complications of catheterizations included infection in 36 cases,catheter obstruction in 6 cases,catheter withdrawal in 5 cases and catheter inadequate blood flow(180mL/min)in 8 cases.The catheter was kept for 1d to 15 months.Conclusion Centre1 venous catheterization is a convenient and easy way to set up a vascular access for hemodialysis and it has a low rate of complications which can be controlled easilly and safely.
