Abstract
Objective To study the effect of silybin on proliferation and remodeling of rabbit's iliac artery after balloon injury. Methods Creating the iliac artery balloon injury in rabbits and using silybin (20 mg·kg -1·d -1 or 40 mg·kg -1·d -1) before and lasting up to 28 days after operation, then the vessels were acquired for pathological analysis with computer imaging. Results No significant difference was found between low-dose treatment group and control group in the following aspects, such as intimal thickness, medial thickness, luminal area and EEL area.The luminal area and EEL area were significantly larger in large -dose treatment group than those in the control group, the intimal thickness was less in the large-dose treatment group than those in the control. Conclusion Silybin can significantly inhibit neointimal hyperplasia and artery remodeling, which may be used for prevention of vascular restenosis.
