Abstract
Objective To observe and compare the anesthetic effects of ketamine alone, ketamine combined with Sumianxin and ketamine combined with thiopentalum natricum on dogs. Methods 180 healthy dogs were divided into three groups: Ketamine anesthesia (n=60), anesthesia by ketamine combined with sumianxin (n=60) or combined with thiopentalum natricum (n= 60). All dogs underwent intramuscular and intravenous injection with those chemicals. Results The ketamine anesthesia, which maintained only 0.5-1 h, needed more administration and its anesthetic effect was lower than that of combined anesthesia. Furthermore, the combined anesthesia improved the anesthetic effect of separate usage of those chemicals, prolonged the anesthesia time, increased muscular relaxation, and did not interfere with respiration and circulatory system, showing a prolonged (1-4 h) and more stable anesthesia with quick resuscitation. Conclusion Ketamine combined with Sumianxin or thiopentalum natricum appears to be a perfect method for the prolonged surgery on experimental dogs.
