Abstract

Woody debris(WD),including coarse woody debris(CWD) and fine woody debris(FWD),is an important component with a variety of ecological functions in forest ecosystems. This paper studied the composition and storage of woody debris in mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest in Wanmulin Nature Reserve of Fujian province. The results showed that: the total storage of WD was 28.06 t·hm-2.The storages of CWD and FWD were 23.18 t·hm-2 and 4.88 t·hm-2 respectively, which accounted for 82.61% and 17.39% of the total WD storage, respectively.Fallen trees and snags accounted for 77.33% and 21.69% of the CWD,while the storages of large branches and stumps were less. The major components of WD were fallen trees and snags with 20~60 cm in diameter.Fallen trees and snags with diameter greater than 60 cm were the least part of WD.Of the different decomposition degree of the CWD,Ⅲ and Ⅳdecay class were dominant, occupying 60%of the amount of fallen trees, and most of snags wereⅡdecay class. The situation of WD in the region reflected the structural characteristics of woody debris in late stage of mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest succession.
