A preliminary study was made on the allelopathic effects of the alcohol extract from Artemisia annua L. to evaluate the prospect of application of this plant species in plant growth regulator development. The alcohol extract from A. annua showed different allelopathic effects on seed germination and seedling growth of Triticum aestivum L. In bioassay, seed germination of T. aestivum was markedly promoted by the extract at 0.1 g/L and root elongation and seedling growth was stimulated by the extract at 0.01 g/L, while high concentration of the extract (50 g/L) completely inhibited seed germination and strongly retarded root elongation and seedling growth of the plants.
