Abstract

The chromogenic reaction of iron? with a new reagent 4-(2-benzothiazolylazo)1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene(BTATB) has been studied by spectrophotometry in detail. The results show that in the buffer solution medium of pH 8.0~9.0,iron? reacts with BTATB to form a stable blue complex(1∶3).The maximum absorption of this complex is at 650 nm with an apparent molar absorptivity of 6.44×10~4 L· mol~(-1)·cm~(-1).Beer′s law is obeyed in the range of 0~25 μg/25 mL for iron?.The proposed method has been applied to the direct determination of iron in aluminium and its alloy standard samples and the results are in agreement with the certified value.
