Abstract

It was investigated and analyzed that the diurnal variation of water indices of American 8 apple trees in this experiment. The results showed that the water potential of stem and leaf were higher in the morning and lower around noon;the water potential change of stem lagged significantly behind that of leaf. The diurnal variation of stem flow showed a single-peak curve whose highest value appeared in the afternoon. But the diurnal variation of transpiration rate presented a double-peak curve with typical lunch break phenomenon. The water use efficiency showed decreasing trend all the day,and the decrease was larger in the morning than that in the afternoon. There were significant relativities between stem flow and water potential, transpiration rate and air temperature, water use efficiency and solar radiation density and so on.
