Abstract

[Purpose] To study the association of fascin1 and E-cadherin expression with the clinicopathologic parameters and prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).[Method] Immunohistochemical SP staining was used to detect the expressions of fascin1 and E-cadherin in 51 NPC specimens.[Result] The expressions of both fascin1 and E-cadherin of NPC were closely associated with the cervical lymph node metastases and clinical staging(P0.05).A negative correlation was found between fascin1 and E-cadherin expression(P0.05).The fascin1 expression was significantly correlated to the 5-year survival rate in patients with NPC(P0.05),but had no correlation to 1-,3-year survival rate.E-cadherin expression was not correlated with prognosis of NPC.[Conclusions] Fascin1 overexpression may be involved in the early lymph node metastases of NPC and helpful for evaluating the lymph node metastatic potential and prognosis of NPC.Its mechanism might be down-regulation with E-cadherin.
