Research Advance of Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Dissection in Thyroid Gland Surgery

The injury of recurrent laryngeal nerve(RLN)is a serious surgical complication in thyroid gland surgery.Therefore,how to avoid the iatrogenic injury of RLN has been always challenging thyroid gland surgery.In previous practice,some dorsal thyroid tissues are usually preserved to avoid the injury of RLN.Some recent studies show that the dissection of RLN can minimize the occurrence of RLN injury and allow the exact total thyroidectomy.Therefore,it is advisable that the dissection of RLN should be performed to minimize the occurrence of RLN injury in surgeries involving RLN,especially total thyroidectomy.
