Study on Flowering Characteristics and Breeding System of Lonicera nuwranthoides Hand.-Mazz.

In this trial,the flowering dynamics and insect pollination characteristics of Lonicera nuwranthoides Hand.-Mazz.were observed in field,its pollen viability was determined by isolated culture,and its stigmas receptivity was determined by the methods of benzidine-H2O2 and bagging,and its breeding system was studied by the out-crossing index(OCI),the pollen-ovule ratio(P/O) and bagging tests.The result showed that the population florescence of the Lonicera nuwranthoides Hand.-Mazz.was about 30 days from June to July,the florescence of a single plant was about 16 days,and the life span of an individual flower was 2-3 days.The stigmas receptivity was the highest from 12 hours before flowering to 36 hours after flowering,and pollen viability was the highest at noon during the flowering day.The pollinators mostly arranged in Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera which played an important role in pollinating of Lonicera nuwranthoides Hand.-Mazz..The out-crossing index OCI=4,the breeding system of Lonicera nuwranthoides Hand.-Mazz.was determined as out-crossing and partially self-compatible,which required pollinators during pollination.The pollen-ovule ratio(P/O) was about 664.4,the breeding system was facultative xenogamy.By bagging testing,the self-fertility rate was 3.03 % and cross-pollination rate was 79.17 %,and the breeding system was out-crossing.The breeding system of Lonicera nuwranthoides Hand.-Mazz.belonged to largely outcrossing and partially self-compatible,which required pollinators for cross-pollinating.
