Abstract
Objective To investigate the value of detecting resistin level in peripheral blood of patients with coexistence of type 2 diabetes(T2DM) and hypertension(HT).Methods Eligible patients were all admitted in departments of endocrinology and cardiology from March 2006 to December 2007.Following groups were studied:T2DM alone group(group A,n=28),T2DM complicated with HT group(group B,n=26),HT alone group(group C,n=30),normal control group(control group,n=25).Fasting blood glucose(FBG),HbA1c,cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),and serum resistin were detected in separate groups;the maximum intra-mid membrane thickness(IMT) of inner/outside carotid artery was measured as well;the relations among above indexes were studied. Results The resistin level in group B was obviously higher than that in other three groups((39.0±16.4)ng/ml vs(14.5±8.8)ng/ml,(14.3±5.6)ng/ml,(10.3±3.3)ng/ml,respectively,all P0.05).The glucose level showed correlation with age, body mass index(BMI),systolic/diastolic blood pressure and serum resistin level by multiple regression analysis;the glucose level was still correlated with serum resistin level after adjusting age,BMI and blood pressure. Conclusions Resistin level in peripheral blood is an independent risk factor of coexistence of T2DM and HT.
