Abstract
The Inter-carrier interference(ISI) caused by the carrier frequency offset(CFO) severely degrades the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems. Therefore, accurate carrier synchronization is essential in OFDM systems. This paper presents a fine carrier synchronization algorithm based on the similarities of the guard interval for time-domain synchronous OFDM(TDS-OFDM) systems.Analyses and simulations show that the algorithm is not only insensitive to symbol timing errors, but also has very high estimation accuracy. The normalized estimation variance can be reduced from 10-8 to 10-13.The algorithm also dramatically reduces the hardware complexity.
