Abstract

Fe S solid lubrication coating were prepared on the surface of bearing steel balls by means of low temperature ion sulphurizing process. Friction and wear tests were performed using a MRS-1J test rig. The tribological performance of balls which coated coating or no was investigated under the condition of oil lubrication and grease lubrication. Optical microscopy and photoelectron spectrometer were used to observe the wear scar and the friction and wear mechanism of the coating were also analyzed. The result demonstrates that sulphurizing layer surface has porous structure, and the tribological performance is improved by coating surface pore reservoir characteristics, and the ion sulfide layers show remarkable friction-reducing and wear-resistance effects. Compared with grease lubrication, the friction-reducing and wear-resistance effects of sulfurizing coating under the condition of oil lubrication are better.
