Abstract

Without professional training of the application of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), many English teachers in China seem to have the superficial understanding of the theory of CLT and lack specific teaching strategies to apply CLT in teaching practice. In terms of English speaking class, the paper aims to bridge the gap between the theory of CLT and the application of CLT by interpreting the relevant notions of CLT and making clear the English speaking teaching objectives that learners should acquire the communicative competences of negotiating meaning and of using language appropriately in social context. Furthermore, it provides two feasible strategies and a sample of English speaking class to illustrate the application of the CLT.
