Abstract

Objective: To find out the clinical significance of embolization with detachable balloon in the treatment of traumatic carotid cavernous fistula(CCF).Method: Of 21 patients with traumatic carotid cavernous fistulas(TCCF) were treated by transarterid embolization with detachable balloon.Result: All the patients were cured.Once successful embolization in 20 cases and twice in 1 cases.Internal carotid arteries of 17cases(80.9%) were preserved, and 4 cases were treated with occlusion of the internal carotid arteries.None of the CCF reoccurred following-up from 3 months to 6 months. Conclusion: Embolization by detachable balloon has become the most effective method for the treatment of carotid cavernous fistula.
