Abstract

This paper was a review about the toxicity and ecotoxicological research of residues of veterinary drugs. Veterinary drug residues included those in the food producing animals and in the ecological environment. Residues of veterinary drugs in food producing animals may cause the harms to human consumers which include directive toxicity, effects on intestinal microflora and increase of bacterial resistance of pathogen. Ecotoxicities of veterinary drug residues in environment may manifest mainly the effect on the biological populations in the soil, effect on aquaticlife, effect on various insects and fate in the environment. The paper showed that veterinary drug residues, human health and ecological environment as well were so closely related, further studies and investigation should be carried on.
