Study on Working Performance of Dowel Bar with Horizontal Installation Errors

Abstract

The pull-out test on dowel bar was performed to compare the influence of different treatment methods and deviation of layout on it.It is found that the dowel bar sprayed by plastic can better meet the demand of setting the dowel bar in transverse joints of the concrete pavement,and the reason for cracks appeared in 50 cm range of the joints is the deflection of the dowel bar.Then the bending fatigue test was performed to valuate the degradation regularity of the load transfer capacity of the joints with different horizontal installation errors(0°,5°,10° and 15°).It is found that(1) the initial load transfer capacity reduces quickly with the dowel bar's layout deviation angle increases,and the load transfer capacity becomes worse and worse in the working cycles;(2) when the dowel bar's layout deviation angle is no more than 5°,the dowel bar's working performance is not affected and may be kept at the middle level.Finally,the looseness of dowel bar under the repeated bending test with 800,000 cycles was given,and the technical control measures for avoidance of the position deviation were suggested.
